Department Of Social Work

The department of Social Work was started with a mindset to train the prospective social workers in the social outreach skills. With an intake of 30 students, the course was started 07 years back with an assumption that individuals, groups, community and society at large suffer from various psychosocial problems. This course helps the students to work for the well- being of needy people especially weaker sections by empowering them. The department of Social Work has signed MoU with the National Association of Professional Social Workers (NAPSWI) and Association of Professional Social Workers and Development Practitioners (APSWDP) based at Chandigarh. The thrust of the Department is to equip the students well with the Social Work knowledge base, skills and abilities required to grow professionally. The department of Social Work is offering the best syllabus in parlance with UGC Learning Outcomes-based Curriculum Framework. The Field Work Practicum is an integral part of the Social Work course and special emphasis is given on training of the students through concurrent fieldwork, summer internship, orientation visits, educational tours, training workshop, seminar/webinar etc, where students get opportunity to learn by doing in real-life situations. The Group Conference and Individual Conference for students with their departmental supervisors are a platform where students discuss their fieldwork experiences, problems and interventions either in the group or individually. During Individual and Group Conferences, students are trained on dealing with the problems effectively using appropriate Social Work Methods, Tools, Techniques and Skills. Despite this, important tips are provided to students to improve their report writing skills.

All faculty members have practical experience of working with National and International level NGOs.   All the students of last batches are placed and are working with Red Cross, Others NGOs and various government departments.

Special Features of the Master of Social Work (MSW) Course:

  1. Besides providing active learning to the students, various programme such as Field Work visit to the Slum Area and Rural areas, Hospital visit, Visit to Children Home, Home for elderly, Industrial Visit, Summer Placement, Exposure visit to National and International level Non Governmental Organization (NGO) etc. is organized.
  2. Group Discussion, Individual Conference, seminar presentation, case studies, debate.

I am very happy to introduce with you the Department of Social Work, CBLU.  Since the establishment of the Department of Social Work in 2014, the department has done phenomenal job in fostering community engagement to address the social problems in the nearby villages of the Bhiwani town. Currently, the department of Social Work is offering Master of Social Work (MSW) Course with 30 intake capacity. The Department has also drafted syllabus for Social Work as a subject at Under Graduate (UG) level, which can be followed by the university affiliated colleges for offering the new course. The Field Work Practicum makes the MSW course a unique, creative and interesting. Social Work Education is the important course and is instrumental in solving social problems and in bringing social changes. The students are well trained to develop essentials knowledge, skills and attitude among them which helps them to get good job opportunities later. Besides this, students get opportunities through training programmes, webinar and conferences etc during the course to build networking other Social Work Professionals, Alumni Groups, Professional Bodies and other organizations. Eventually, networking helps the students a lot in getting jobs. In the current era, various social problems are affecting the social functioning of the individuals and community and this has widened the scope of Social Work profession. Social Workers enjoys various designation such as Community Mobiliser, Community Organiser, Group Worker, Resource Mobilisor, Project Coordinator, Project Trainee, Out Reach Worker, Protection Officer, Project Officer, Case Worker,  Programme Manager, Counselor, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer (MEO), Medical Social Worker, Social Welfare Officer, Labour Officer, Child Development and Protection Officer (CDPO), Researcher etc.  in their jobs and performs various role in the society.

Bachelor Degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks in aggregate (42.75% in case of SC/ST/Blind/Visually/ Differently Abled etc. candidates).

The Department of Social Work kickstarted Sustainable Consumption Campaign as per the direction of Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar Mittal and on the behest of Prof. Vikas Kumar, (Incharge- Social Work) in the month of July, 2020 to till date. The series of Social Outreach activities on sustainable consumption were organized by the Department of Social Work in or around Bhiwani town. The objective of this campaign was to make people aware of water conservation, food security, nutritious food, plantation, indigenous food system and to adopt best sustainable practices of consumption and production. Due to modern food habits and lack of sustainable consumption, the problem of obesity and diabetes is increasing in society, hence Social Outreach Programmes were organised to bring behavior change among the people and sensitize them to adopt best sustainable practices. 

 The various social outreach activities organised undertaken sustainable consumption campaign includes Plantation Drive, Signature Campaign on Sustainable Consumption, Poster Campaign and Door- to door visits, Face Mask Distribution, Workshop on the theme “Water Conservation: A Shift from Awareness to Consciousness”, Hand Made Clothes Bag Promotion, Awareness through  IEC materials (Poster, Banner and Booklets), Plastic Free Drive, Second Hand Book Collection for Community Library,  Winter Clothes Distribution to Slum Dwellers; Training Workshop on Community Driven Development and Sustainable Development Goals etc.
